Functional Recovery of Steel Special Moment Frames

چکیده

Steel special moment frames (SMFs) designed per current codes will likely require major repair or be a total loss after design earthquake (DE) shaking. Functional recovery of SMFs can improved by designing to stricter drift limits, improving postyield stiffness, repairability. In this study, FEMA P-58/ATC-138 (beta) was used determine the most effective option for functional recovery. Eighteen were with different heights (4, 6, and 8 stories), risk categories (II IV), connections (with varying stiffness repairability) analyzed under response history analysis (RHA). Results from RHA in analyses quantify each design. The building designs showed that 6- 8-story Risk Category IV 1.8 2.2 times heavier than II designs, direct cost premium (versus II) 4%–14% costs. Response enhanced had up 47% lower residual drifts typical stiffness. repairability comparable While some proposals improve focus primarily on strength, study demonstrates relative value

Comparison of the Progressive Collapse Resistance of Seismically Designed Steel Shear Wall Frames And Special Steel Moment Frames

In this study, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of the conventional special moment frame (SMF) systems. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses are conducted to follow the progressive collapse of the structures, and their ability of absorb...

Evaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings

Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...

Cost Evaluation of Columns Arrangements in Special Steel Moment Resisting Frames with Special Chevron Braces

Building structures are subject to displacement under the influence of forces resulting from earthquake. The most common method of controlling such displacements in steel structures, which are usually of lateral type, is the use of braces. Depending on designing requirements and feasibility, braces are available in various forms. Configuration of bracing systems is generally of concentric or ec...

Robustness Assessment of Steel Moment Resisting Frames

Nowadays, many buildings with steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRF) are built in seismic zones when seismic codes are at its early stages of development, and as such, these structures are often designed solely to resist lateral wind loads without providing an overall ductile mechanism. On the other hand, current seismic design criteria based on hierarchy of resistance allow enhancing the structur...

PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF STEEL MOMENT FRAMES

This study deals with performance-based design optimization (PBDO) of steel moment frames employing four different metaheuristics consisting of genetic algorithm (GA), ant colony optimization (ACO), harmony search (HS), and particle swarm optimization (PSO). In order to evaluate the seismic capacity of the structures, nonlinear pushover analysis is conducted (PBDO). This method is an iterative ...
